Create and then promoting your app?
Many small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) do not have the budget to have an app developed externally by an agency or a software house. For this reason, they opt for an app maker that enables them to create their own app at low cost. However, many companies assume that they first create their own app and only then take care of promoting their app – making the app known through several channels. But far from it! We’ll show you what really matters and what you need to consider for promoting your app.
Promoting your app: four simple steps that promise success
1. Include your target audience
To make your app promotion successful, you need people who think your app makes sense and are willing to write and talk about it. That’s why it’s important that you include them in your “creation process” right from the start of your app creation. Keep e.g. your customers up to date about your app by email. They can give you feedback at any time on what you can possibly improve on your app. This already promotes an initial awareness of your app and also makes your customers feel that they are being taken seriously. As soon as you are finished with your app, inform your customers. They will see the result and can make further comments. Once this process is complete, you can publish your app or submit it to an App Store. Then motivate the same people to download your app or – if it’s a PWA – place it on your smartphone’s home screen.
2. Search for “influencers” for your app
The more people talk about your app, the better. It’s best to find people who are so-called influencers. These are users who manage to move the online masses and get them excited about a certain topic. Look at yourself on the Internet on appropriate sides and step with influencern into contact and show them, which has your App for a use. If they are convinced, they will write about your app and share your content on social media or in your blog with their fans/followers. Use this online word-of-mouth for promoting your app and becoming even more successful.
3. App Store Optimization and SEO for promoting your app
App Store Optimization (ASO)
If you have submitted your app to an App Store, you also want your customers or target group to find it quickly. This is where App Store Optimization comes in. The ASO is the process to rank your app better in the search results in the App Store. Higher positions also lead to better visibility and findability. This is also reflected in more download numbers, which are also an ASO criterion. As with Google, your customers will use keywords to search for your own app in the App Store. Ratings on your app are also important to convince others to download your app. Use your connections to influencers and customers who already have your app on their smartphone. They will be happy to help you and give you positive feedback in the form of a rating. For further information about ASO check out this article from Ryte.
Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
This comes into play when you have created a Progressive Web App (PWA). This does not require an App Store, but can be found on the World Wide Web. It is a mobile optimized website with typical app functions, e.g. sending push notifcations. In order for your customers and other users to find your PWA, you should invest time in the SEO. The contents of your PWA should be prepared with corresponding keywords. One of your most important keywords should also be present in the PWA title and – as with normal websites – in the URLs. How you can use SEO for your PWA and what effect it has, you can find out in this blog post.
4. App promotion online and offline
Of course you can also do something for the app promotion, e.g. by referring to it on your website. This can be a QR code or a direct link to the App Store. Also on your social media channels – Facebook, Twitter or Instagram – you can draw the attention of several interesting posts to your app. Or you can use flyers, posters or business cards to promote your app offline. There are no limits in this respect. Also here a QR code is suitable, which you attach to these advertising media. So your customers can simply download your app or place it on their home screen (in case of using a PWA) while they are standing at a bus stop, for example.
Create app and start app promotion
With this knowledge you are well equipped for creating and promoting your app. Once you have managed to get many customers to use your app, you can then use push and chat messages to expand and strengthen your customer relationship and loyalty.
